Eleven inmates of the Agodi Prisons, Ibadan currently awaiting trial at different courts across Oyo state have breathe fresh air of freedom after being granted freedom by the Chief Judge of Oyo state, Justice Adeniji  Badejoko during a visit to the prisons.

Justice badejoko said the visit was to review the position of cases of the inmates awaiting trials in the prison.

Correspondent, Adisa Winlade, who was on the entourage of the Chief Judge reports that the eleven inmates released included six females and five males; his report.

The sitting to review the position of cases of the over five hundred inmates of the Agodi Prisons who are on the awaiting trial list started some few minutes after noon and by half past five in the evening when it was brought to a close eleven inmates out of about ninety cases reviewed were granted freedom with two of them, one Idowu Ajagbe, 32 and a nursing mother,  Nifemi Semiu 22, released from prison custody but asked to continue to attend their court hearing from home.

Justice Badejoko Adeniji said the visit and consequent release of some of the inmates awaiting trials was part of efforts to decongest the prisons. She said the chief justice of the federation has ordered, without mincing words, the decongestion of the nation’s prisons within a time frame of three months and had as a result institute a committee on speedy administration of Criminal Justice to review the position of proceedings of cases against inmates awaiting trials in various prisons across the country. The committee on speedy administration of Criminal Justice has so far taken its speedy justice efforts to Oyo, Eruwa and Ibadan

On the entourage of the Chief Judge were Justices of the state high court, magistrates from the Ibadan judicial division the Chairman Ibadan Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, Barrister Gbadamosi, and were received by the officer in charge of the Agodi prisons, Deputy Comptroller of Prisons, DCP Showumi.
