Lassa Fever: Oyo on Red Alert, Partners UCH, NMA
Oyo State Government on Thursday said it has placed medical officials specifically across the 33 local government and 35 local council development authority of the state to handled suspected case of lassa fever.
 
This is as the government also said it has step up its preventive efforts by partnering with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, the University College Hospital and members of the Nigeria Medical Association to ensure that the spread did not get to the state.
 
Addressing journalists in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Bashir Bello said although, there has not been any reported case of lassa fever following the recent outbreak across the country, the state has up its preventive measures to ensure the safety of the citizens and residents of the state.
He stated that since since the outbreak of the haemorrhagic fever in some states across the country, the ministry had been on surveillance and had alerted its health centres across local governments areas in the state, isolated department and quarantine units.
Correspondent Kunle ojo reports that the Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association in the state, Dr. Akin Sodipo and the Permanent  Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Mufutau Ayoola charged all stakeholders to be on the alert and step up campaigns against the spread of the disease while they appealed to medical practitioners and caregivers to imbibe the culture of using handgloves before giving treatment to any patient.
He also appealed to the media to help in spreading the information on the danger of the disease, so as to create awareness that can help prevent any outbreak in the state.
