Ban Ki Moon Meets With Nigeria Governors In Abuja August 23

The United Nations Secretary-General, Mr Ban Ki-moon, will visit Nigeria from August 23 to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari and State Governors.


The state governors will hold a meeting with Mr Ban Ki Moon, on Sunday 23 August in Abuja.


The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, and governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, revealed after the meeting of the forum held on Wednesday that the governors would be discussing, among other things, the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG, the successor programme of the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs and Pathways to a new Nigeria-Role of Sub-National Governments.


Others expected to attend the meeting are the head of the UN office for West Africa, Mohammed Ibn Chambers, and the Executive Director of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities, UNFPA, Babatunde Osotimehin.


Sunday’s trip is the second to Nigeria for the UN leader since elected in January 2007. Mr. Moon first visit in May 2011 was to promote a health campaign tagged “Every Woman, Every Child” which was launched in September 2010.


The peak of Ki-moon’s second visit will be his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, which will be rounded off with a joint press conference.


There will also be a dinner hosted by President Buhari in honour of the esteemed guest.
