40,000 displaced traders seek government intervention

Over 40, 000 traders displaced from the New Benin market, Ekiosa market and Oba market have taken to the streets in the area in a peaceful protest, seeking the urgent intervention of the state government.


 

Reports from the traders revealed that the traders were affected after the state government embarked on a massive demolition of illegal structures in the state.

The traders who registered their plights in a protest, called on the governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki to make available land where they could trade.

The displaced traders during their peaceful protest to Oredo LG council secretariat, govt house, NUJ council secretariat in Benin says they cannot fend for themselves and families as they do not have place to trade.

The traders, who were received at the NUJ council Secretariat, were urged to go about their protests peacefully.
