Court remands Port Harcourt serial killer

The presiding judge of the case involving the serial killing of women in Port Harcourt Justice Adolphus Enebeli has asked that the prime suspect Gracious David-west be remanded in prison custody.

The suspect was asked to remain in prison custody after his plea of pleading guilty to nine out of the ten count charges against him, except that of attempted murder.

Justice Enebeli ruled that in the eyes of the law the suspect is still innocent until evidence proves he is guilty despite pleading guilty.

The judge also granted the application of the state counsel from the ministry of justice to take over the prosecution from the police legal team after the state counsel Chidi Ekeh invoke the power of section211 of the criminal code to take over prosecution.

Speaking to journalists outside the courtroom, state counsel Chidi Ekeh said the state took over the case to ensure justice is given as the police counsel described it as constitutional.

Counsel to the defendant Vincent Chukwu said the defendant is still innocent until he is proven guilty by the court.

It will be recalled that the defendant David West was said to have killed nine young women and attempted to kill one from the 30TH of June to 27TH September at different locations in Port Harcourt.

The judge further adjourned hearing to November 18th and December 4th for definite hearing on the matter.
