Delta govt. arrest defaulters over waste dump

As part of the efforts to keep the state free from indiscriminate waste dump along major roads during the yuletide season, the Delta state waste management board have arrested over twenty defaulters for various offenses ranging from blocked drainages and dumping of refuse in prohibited areas.


The exercise which started in the early hours of the morning in Warri South and Effurun in Uvwie local government areas, led to the clearing of weeds and refuse in major roads.

The defaulters which include landlords and tenants were taken to a special mobile court in Warri where they paid the sum of five thousand Naira each, as the board chairman spoke on the implementation.

Speaking on the arrest, he attributed it to indiscriminate waste dump which he said the task-force will continue to effect arrest.

Meanwhile, defaulters who could not pay the stipulated five thousand Naira by the waste management .board, were remanded in police custody as those who paid were issued receipt by the board.
