Delta threatens to punish teachers

In a deliberate attempt to check teachers under the umbrella body of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) who had threatened to stay away from classes on the first day of resumption, the Delta state government has commenced the monitoring of schools to check erring teachers.

This is coming as the state government shifted resumption date by a day to enable it brief members of the union on the need for full compliance with the government directive.

Speaking on the need for monitoring teachers who stayed away from classes, the Chief Inspector of Education in Warri and Uvwie local government expressed government’s position to discipline erring teachers.

Meanwhile, after inspecting different schools in Warri and Uvwie local government over teacher’s compliance, the Chief Inspector of Education advised parents against keeping their wards at home.

The level of compliance by teachers in some of the schools visited was on the high side, which is an indication that they ignored the stay at home order as a result of their salaries issue.
