Obaseki suspends LG head, others

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki has on Thursday, June 8, suspended indefinitely the Head of Service of Egor local government council, Rachel Oriefo and few other heads of departments.

The governor gave the order when he paid an unscheduled visit to the council secretariat at Uselu, on Thursday morning, following what the governor described as irresponsible acts that should not be condone.

Governor Obaseki, who visited the council secretariat at about 8:20 am, Thursday was surprised that some staffs were yet to resume duty particularly senior staff and the only one on ground was the NULGE chairman whom the governor expressed his displeasure to when it was confirmed that thirty six out of the 5 hundred and 99 staffs had resumed duty.

Governor Obaseki, saddened by this development maintained that; “this Luke warmness account for the low revenue.”

The governor who was accompanied by a former deputy governor Lucky Imasuen, and the chairman local government service commission, Dr Simon Imuekheme, observed that this trend cannot continue if they must meet their expectations.

Workers who came late afterwards were allowed into the premises to seek audience with the governor, one of the staff on behalf of others express regret for their actions and promise it would not repeat itself again.

However, the Governor noted that his visit to the council was necessitated by the outcome of the last Joint Account Allocation Committee meeting where the council has less than one million naira after all necessary federal deductions and its internally generated revenue is less than 2 million monthly.
