Group frowns at violence against women

Nongovernmental women pressure group in the Niger Delta region, Women In Peace Building Network (WIPET) which is an affiliate body of the West African women in peace building, have taken the campaign of violence against women to the streets and market in Warri south local government area of Delta state.


Armed with placards of different inscriptions, the women gathered at the council secretariat of Warri south local government before proceeding to the Warri main market where over a hundred women were briefed.

Speaking on government support for the group after receiving the campaign logo, the council chairman Mofe Edema says no to violence.

Meanwhile, after the sensitization of market women on the need to speak out against violence, the south-south coordinator of the group and her Delta counterpart said violence against women is very prevalent.

The campaign according to the group will be replicated in the three senatorial districts of the state, before the extension to other south-south states.
