Insecurity, Shettima asks for increase budget allocation

Vice President Kashim Shettima, has emphasized for increase in budgetary allocation for security and the need to counter disinformation warfare.

Shettima, who made the disclosure at the second day of two day roundtable themed “Multi-Dimensional Approach to Tackling Insecurity in Northern Nigeria, organized by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) in Abuja aligned the initiative with the present administration’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace nationwide.

The vice president who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Yusuf Hadejia, recognized security as a critical agenda and emphasized the importance of national unity, affirming the government’s dedication to supporting security agencies in their quest for enduring security.

In his welcome address, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, National Coordinator of CNG, said for the past two decades, Northern Nigeria has been plagued by various security challenges, adding that the escalating threats posed by insurgent groups, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities have had a devastating impact on the lives and livelihoods of the Northern people.

Charanchi noted that the absence of public involvement and enhanced interagency coordination have worsened the security situation that requires a unified and comprehensive response, one that goes beyond a purely military approach and addresses the root causes of insecurity.
