Minister of Works denies report of financial infraction.

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umai, has debunked claim of financial infraction at the Ministry under his leadership.

Tracka, an arm budgiT, that deal with issues of transparency in Governance and Spending had on Friday revealed that it has uncovered the payment of series of find amounting to #8.6b to cover various road projects executed in different parts of the country.

Tracka said the payment violated the procurement Act, asking the Minister to come forward and explained the rationale for the payment.

Reacting to the allegations in an interview with Journalists in Abuja on Saturday, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umai, faulted the claim saying the projects being mentioned were not approved under his leadership, as Minister.

The Minister disclosed that he was at the Senate during the months mentioned in the report stressing that, so far a contractor executed a project, the money becomes his or her money and could be paid into any bank.

While faulting the report, Umai revealed that he has no fact about the job being mentioned noting that, the report remains a distraction.

The Minister, who accused some contractors of playing to the gallery based on his stand and conviction for quality job, promised to remain focus and refused to be distracted.
