NDLEA solicits more funding

National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Borno state has made more arrests between January and June 2018 than they made in 2017.

This, according to Markus Ayuba is due to the direct correlation of drugs to insurgent activities.

The commandant, Borno state command of NDLEA, Joseph Iweajunwa said the statistics of arrests and seizures of drugs in Maiduguri is an indication that the command has intensified its operation in the state but it is also worrisome to officers of the command as the number of arrests shows that more drugs find their way to the state than the previous years and this is a source of concern to them because they lack the necessary facilities to effectively block the supply of drugs into the state

Similarly, the commandant enthused that of major concern to them is the source of supply of these drugs into the state. He said due to the many borders surrounding the state, officers find it difficult to monitor these entry points, therefore they have devised means of taming drug addiction by engaging in awareness campaigns and soliciting for fundings from well-meaning individuals to boost operations in the state.
