NEC set to abolish Almajiri phenomenon

The federal government has resolved to abolish the almajiri phenomenon as a way of curbing the rising insecurity in the country.


National security adviser, Babagan Monguno made the disclosure after the ninety-fifth meeting of the economic council in Abuja, Thursday.

Monguno said such group as the almajiri is responsible many of the social vices currently being witnessed in the country.

He said federal government will collaborate with state governments to ensure full implementation of compulsory education for Nigerian children as part of plans to eliminate extremism within the country.

Also speaking, the inspector general of police who briefed the council on ways to contain insecurity in the country, the force has commenced installation of CCTV within the federal capital territory to monitor activities of criminals.

He said the council also set up the security and policing committee to combat insecurity in the country as part of safe city initiative of the force.

The National economic council also reconstituted its ad-hoc committee on the reconciliation of  the Excess Crude and NNPC Accounts

Governor of Adamawa Umar Fintiri who conveyed the information also disclosed that the current balance in the excess crude account is one hundred and forty-four million dollars while the balance in the stabilization fund as at June 19 stood at 17.6 billion Naira. 

He also pegged the balance in the National Resources Development Fund at seventy-seven billion Naira respectively.

The Council also proffered solutions that centred on education, unemployment reduction and poverty reduction.
