Police arrest two bandits with live ammunition in Benue

With less than four days to 2020 New year celebration, two suspected bandits have been arrested in  Benue State over possession of an illegal cache of live ammunition while heading to Nassarawa state where they reside.

The two suspects, Usman Saleh, and Ibrahim Alhaji are native of Fulani extraction who both resides in Awe, in Nassarawa state, a neighbouring community to Benue. They were arrested by men of operation Zenda an attempt to escape after the operatives discovered rounds of life and AK rifle ammunition in their possession along Makurdi - Gboko express road before moving the suspects to Makurdi for interrogation.

The state police public relation officer, DSP Catherine Anene, when contacted in a phone chat, confirmed the incident but says she has yet to be fully briefed.

It will be recalled that about five local government areas of the state were attacked in the wake of the 2018 New Year celebration. As other approaches, farmers are afraid of possible attacks during the dry season as herders are likely to move in Benue valley to graze hence the call to extend the tenure of operation whirl stroke a joint military intervention.
