Women protest alleged neglect by NGC

Women from Jeddo community in the Warri South local government area of Delta state have taken to the streets in a peaceful protest over what they described as unfulfilled promises by the Nigerian Gas Company(NGC).

This is coming more than one month after a gas explosion at the neighbouring Egbokodo community affected Jeddo and other communities, with the company, said to be doing little to address their plights.

The protesters who thronged the streets armed with placards with different inscriptions and singing solidarity songs, matched to the homes of the community leaders who expressed displeasure over the company’s neglect.

The effect of the explosion which was visible in the cracked houses and the polluted fishponds belonging to the women in the community led to the threat of a legal action by the community president.

It will be recalled that since the gas pipeline exploded less than two months ago, the company had completed repair works in the affected areas, but the promise of empowering the affected communities have not been accomplished.
