Insecurity: Oyo PDP and APC Trade Words

As residents of Oyo State continue to grapple with the spate of armed robbery, kidnappings, among other social vices, the ruling People’s Democratic Party and the All Progressive Congress have continued to trade blame on the development.

The two parties in separate press statements made available to our correspondent in the state are now at loggerhead on who is responsible for the ugly trend.

The All Progressive Congress in a statement by a concerned group signed Olawale Sadare and Afeez Bolaji blamed the spate of insecurity in the state on Governor Seyi Makinde’s alleged incompetence, inexperience and grandstanding.

The group also cried out over alleged collapse of security in the state since Governor Makinde took over the baton of governance from late Senator Abiola Ajimobi in May 2019.

It added that Oyo has emerged the most troubled state in the Southern part of the country in relation to the astronomical rise in the cases of armed banditry, kidnapping, hoodlum attacks, murder, extrajudicial killings, gang wars among others as reported on a daily basis across the zones of Ibadan, Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso and Oyo.

Responding to the allegation, the Peoples Democratic Party in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Akeem Olatunji described as irresponsible, reprehensible and untoward a statement by some attention-seekers in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, which tried to put the blame of an alleged spate of insecurity on Governor Seyi Makinde.

The party maintained that with the level of investment and support given to security agencies by Governor Makinde, President Muhammadu Buhari, rather than the governor, should be called to question on the failure of the security system across the country, including Oyo State.

The Publicity Secretary of the party in the state disclosed that attempts by APC members to pass the buck of the growing insecurity to Governor Makinde are lame, unthoughtful and mischievous.

The party equally faulted the reasoning of the APC on Governor Makinde's role in the #EndSARS protests, noting that the governor did not in any way err or support hoodlums against security agents as the APC is trying hard to make it look.
