National Assembly Invasion: Cleric Calls For Thorough Investigation

As the dust raised by the invasion of the National Assembly last week is yet to settle, the Bishop of the Methodist Diocese of Egba West, Rt. Rev. Duke Odubanjo has called for the involvement of the officers of the Nigeria Police in the mayhem.

 

Rev. Odubanjo, who bemoaned the state of Nigeria during his remark at a farewell gathering organized by Ogun state government for the state delegation to Jerusalem for this year Holy Pilgrim said, the disruption of the planned proceeding of the House of representative by the police was undemocratic.

 

Nigerians may not have the last about the the crisis that rocked the National Assembly last week as more condemnation have been trailing the involvement of officers of the Nigeria Police in the crisis when some Lawmakers were tear gas and those who were prevented from entering the premises scale the gate to gain entrance.

 

The Bishop ‎Methodist Doicese of Ebga West, Rt. Rev. Duke Odubanjo has condemned the action of the Nigeria Police for their involvement in the crisis calling for a high level probe of the incident.

 

Speaking in Abeokuta at a farewell service for delegates from Ogun State to Jerusalem for this year Holy Pilgrimage, Odubanjo said the development was unacceptable to most Nigerians and must not be swept under the carpet, but must be thoroughly investigated.

 

The cleric condemned the disruption of the planned sitting of the lawmakers stressing that, those who were elected must be allowed to do their work and that it was a high level of impunity‎ for the legislators to be treated that way.

 

 He charged all the 36 state Governors and the president to do something about it saying, It was a shame no Nigeria that our democracy remain at a crude level in 2014is how we are in 2014.

 

On the issue of religious sentiment being promoted ahead of 2015 election by some leaders as well as the issue of stomach-structure, Bishop ‎Odubanjo said, Nigerians should be weary of such move as it would take the country nowhere, but could escalate the lingering crisis in the country.

 

He charged the electorates not to sell their birthright for them not to be enslaved for another four years by ‎politicians, who have no vision for them and the country at large except for their selfish ambition.

 

In his remark at the event, Governor Ibikunle Amosun enjoined the intending pilgrims to use the opportunity to pray for Ogun state and Nigeria at large adding that the country is at a critical moment which require sincere prayer.

 

Prayer was later offered for the journey mercies for the pilgrims, Ogun State and Nigeria in general.
