Edo takes action against herdsmen attack

Following the re-occurrence of the herdsmen attack in some parts of the country, the Edo state government has on Wednesday, June 14, concluded plans to take drastic actions against such attack.

As parts of its efforts to ensure maximum security in the state, the state government has urged the various communities across the state to strengthen their vigilante groups and synergies with law enforcement agencies to curtail the menace of these herdsmen within the state.

The state Deputy Governor, Hon Philip Shaibu, made this known at Elele- Uzairu, in Estako West council, while addressing elders and people of Agrarian community over the brutal murder of a pregnant woman and mother of seven, Magdalene Wilson Tunner, who was killed in cold blood by armed men, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

Commiserating with the people, the deputy governor assured them that the state government is doing everything necessary to ensure security of lives and property across the state.

A woman from the community says most of them are now afraid as they cannot go to their farms owing to their fear for these herdsmen.

The Police Area commander in Auchi, Adamu Isah, who expressed displeasure over the attack, says the police is working in a joint effort with other security agencies and hunters to fish out the killer herdsmen.

The deputy governor also visited the traditional ruler of the community, Chief Saidu  Zebiri, to reassure him that no stone will be left unturned in fishing out the perpetrators of the ridiculous act,

Meanwhile 24 suspects have so far been arrested over the attack and are now with security agencies in the state.
