Police arrest suspects transporting arms, IED materials in Anambra

The police in Anambra says it has arrested two suspected members of the Proscribed Indigenous people of Biafra IPOB, for transporting substance used for making Improvised explosive devices as well as a locally made pistol.

The suspects according to the police were arrested in Aguata community by the police-led joint security patrol team while on intelligent driven routine patrol.

A statement by the state police command spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga made available to newsmen, said the suspects were held carrying three bags of Garri, upon search on the suspects bag discovered a large quantity of gunpowder.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects were enroute to a criminal camp to deliver groceries for consumption and the gunpowder for production of Improvised Explosives for the secessionist group.

The suspects are said to be in custody and assisting the police in arresting other members of the gang.

The Anambra police commissioner CP Nnaghe Obono, reiterates that the police command and other security agencies will continue to act on information to sustain the onslaught of the operation and frustrate evil plans of the criminals in Anambra state.
